Comprehensive Framework for Action - Comments now closed

20th April 2010

Dear Colleagues,

I write to thank you for your comments in view of updating of the Comprehensive Framework for Action (CFA) of the High Level Task Force on the Global Food Security Crisis (HLTF). I am sincerely grateful for your time and effort to contribute to this important and collaborative process.

In total I have contacted more than 300 bodies directly to seek their input into the update of the CFA. These bodies include members of the Contact Group of the Committee on Food Security (CFS), UN Country teams and Resident Coordinators, and NGOs and CSOs working with fishers, pastoralists, small holder farmers and agricultural workers and interested in important cross- cutting approaches such as nutrition, gender and the right to food. In addition a call for comments was posted on our website www.un-foodsecurity.org.

We have received comments from 48 bodies (9 Members States; 36 non governmental entities; the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food; and 2 UN Country Teams). They have been submitted to the CFA Reference Group, made up of representatives from the High Level Task Force. All comments will be compiled in a separate document, which will be available on our website.

On 17th and 18th May there will be a meeting in Dublin (www.updatecfa.com) where a group of invitees from NGOs, CSOs and Governments will discuss these comments with the CFA Reference Group and consider options for updating the CFA so that it reflects the current political, strategic, programmatic and action needs for food and nutrition security. They will also identify outstanding challenges and remaining gaps.

Once again, please accept my sincere thanks and warm best wishes.

David Nabarro
